Our Background
The strong traditions of Lehman Catholic High School are rooted in a long, storied history and rich cultural heritage. These traditions, built on the contributions of three parishes and the predecessor schools associated with those parishes, are proudly reflected in the quadrants of the school crest.
The origins of Lehman Catholic date back to 1887 and Holy Angels Parish. Holy Angels High School is represented in one of the four quadrants of the crest by the wings of an angel. Holy Angels was begun with the assistance of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, and they have continued to serve Lehman Catholic since its founding.
The second quadrant, with the crown of St. Mary, represents the second parish to add high school education. Saint Mary High School was founded in 1902. The third quadrant depicts the mitre of St. Boniface, representing the third area parish to add high school education. Saint Boniface High School was founded in 1924. Saint Boniface merged with Saint Mary in 1928, and the school was re-named Piqua Catholic High School in 1930.
The fourth quadrant of the crest depicts the lamp of knowledge, calling to mind Lehman Catholic’s pursuit of knowledge and strong academic programs. The four quadrants are tied together by a chain that symbolizes the consolidation that formed Lehman Catholic in 1970, and unified efforts of their respective tradition.
